Leaving your off-campus apartment or house for the holidays? Play it safe and follow these safety tips:
- Lock all your windows and doors and close your blinds to reduce visibility
- Leave a TV or radio on to give the impression someone is home if you choose to leave
- Let someone you know and trust check on your residence and pick up mail and newspapers
- Call your local police for security checks on your residence
- Document all of your serial numbers for electronics and bicycles
- If an item doesn’t have a serial number, put your driver’s license number on it
- Secure your valuables outside your home (bikes) either with a U-shaped lock or inside your residence
