In response to the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, the UNC Police K-9 Unit is organizing a donation drive to support pets impacted by Hurricane Helene. The drive will run through next Thursday, Oct. 10, and aims to collect a variety of essential items for displaced pet owners, shelters and those assisting in the recovery.

Community members are encouraged to contribute any items that would benefit displaced pets during this challenging time. Donations can be dropped off at the UNC Public Safety Building located at 285 Manning Dr, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 until Thursday, Oct. 10 during regular business hours. The collected items will be delivered by the UNC Police to the UNC Asheville Police, ensuring they reach those who need them most.

“We are committed to helping western North Carolina communities recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene,” said K9 Officer Jonathan Culberson. “Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of those disrupted by these events.”

Items Needed for Donation:

  • Pet food (dry and wet)
  • Litter and litter boxes
  • Bedding and blankets
  • Kennels and carriers

  • Leashes, collars, and harnesses
  • Cleaning supplies (such as pet-safe disinfectants)
