UNC Police has partnered with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Durham for a special Women Empowered Self-Defense seminar on Saturday, Aug. 31 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Fetzer Wrestling Room. The two-hour seminar is free for UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty and staff.
Designed for beginners, participants will learn self-defense techniques and awareness principles to enhance personal safety. Various threat scenarios being covered include:
- Breaking free from unexpected grabs
- Preventing an attacker from taking you to the ground
- Escaping from underneath a pinned position
The seminar is ideal for first-time self-defense students and is suitable for individuals with varying physical abilities. Additional topics being covered include:
- The Four-Phase Attach Strategy Used by Most Predators
- The 6 Most Important Women’s Self-defense Techniques
- Critical Safety Strategies to Reduce Your Risk
- How to Avoid the “Triangle of Victimization”
