Colleges and universities are required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act to publish and distribute an Annual Security and Fire Safety report that discloses campus crime statistics and other information.

The 2023 Annual Security Report for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is now available online.

The Annual Security Report includes statistics concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, on certain properties owned or controlled by the University, and on public property adjacent to the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, including crime reporting procedures, emergency response and notification, sexual assault response procedures and other matters. In the report, you will also find information about the University’s drug and alcohol policies and associated disciplinary proceedings, information about the health risks of certain drugs and alcohol, and available substance abuse treatment options. For additional information, please see these frequently asked questions about the Clery Act.

Included with the 2023 Annual Security Report is the 2023 Fire Safety Report, which includes statistics regarding fires that have occurred within campus housing over the past three years (2020, 2021 and 2022), information about fire safety devices installed in each campus housing unit, and information about the University’s fire safety policies.
